Description

"Green of Japan" green tea GYOKURO

Gyokuro (玉露) is one of the noblest of all Japanese, and sometimes all world green teas. It is valued for its unique sweet taste and health properties of vegetables and herbs.

Plant variety (eng. cultivar) - Yabukita, spring harvest

Region: Shizuoka

Unique manufacturing process

About three weeks before harvest, the tea is covered with a special bamboo roof to protect it from the midday sun. Growing in the shade makes tea more chlorophyll in the leaf, the color of which becomes dark green as a result.

By briefly (about 15-20 seconds) heating the leaves using hot water vapor, oxidation is stopped and the green color of the leaves, light aroma and fresh taste remains.

The characteristic sweet taste of Gyokuro tea is largely due to amino acids, called L-theanine, produced in the root of the bush, which further passes into the leaves. Growing in the shade prevents L-theanine from converting to catechin, which gives tea its bitterness. This compound enhances the flavor known as “umami” in tea and adds sweetness. Among all green teas, GYOKURO tea contains the most L-theanine.

Although catechins are powerful antioxidants with immense health benefits, they must be balanced with L-theanine content.

Why is GYOKURO tea so good for our health?

♥  Alertness of mind

Gyokuro tea bushes are grown in the shade, protected from direct sunlight, which is why Gyokuro tea has a high caffeine content. However, it affects our body differently than the caffeine in coffee. This is thanks to amino acids called L-theanine, which, along with caffeine, acts as a beneficial stimulant. The high energy level lasts longer and there is no coffee heart palpitations. For thousands of years, Zen monks have used green tea to sustain mental alertness during long meditation.

L-theanine increases the concentration of neurotransmitters such as GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) - dopamine and serotonin, and their synthesis in the brain results in relaxation, great mood and good feeling. L-theanine is also called "Feel good" amino acid, because relaxes the body and mind.

♥  Cancer prevention

Gyokuro tea is rich in bioactive substances called “polyphenols". Low molecular weight polyphenols - catechins, and especially EGCg (epigallocatechin gallate), are ten times stronger antioxidants than vitamins C and E. Scientific studies have proven the benefits of polyphenols in the prevention and development of oncological levels: they influence the correction of immunity, affect inflammation, stop the nutrition of cancer cells, inhibit the activity of enzymes that promote the development of cancer. Catechins protect the body from the harmful effects of free radicals on the body.

♥  Heart health

Green tea contains a large amount of catechins, which, as the strongest antioxidants, help reduce the risk of vascular and heart diseases, such as heart attack and stroke. Drinking unsweetened Gyokuro tea helps lower blood pressureregulate sugar levels blood and remove toxins from the body.

This tea also helps reduce cholesterol, called LDL (low-density, or "bad") levels. Polyphenols block the absorption of cholesterol in the intestine and promote its release in the body.

♥  Dental health

Green tea is rich in antioxidants called polyphenols, which help fight bacteria causing gum disease and at the same time prevents bad breath. They also help protect against oral cancer.

Method of preparation:

  1. Add green tea to the teapot.
  2. Never use freshly boiled water! Pour boiled tea over the tea leaves and cooled to the required temp. with water. Brewing time depends on the type of tea (see below).
  3. Pour the brewed green tea evenly into all the pre-prepared cups, which will preserve the taste and aroma. Never leave tea leaves in water! In warm water, the catechins break down and the proteins increase, which can cause stomach aches and the tea itself will be more bitter.
  4. Since we use the highest quality grade green tea, the same tea herbs may be present boiled three times (increase the draw time by 15 seconds each time)

Amount of tea leaves: 6 g

Amount of water: 60 ml

Water temperature: 50-60 C

Time: 2.5-3 min.
