Differences between Bancha and Sencha

It is difficult for the average consumer to distinguish between Bancha and Sencha tea.

Grown and produced in the same way as Sencha. One of the differences is the size and texture of the selected leaves. For sencha tea, the leaves are picked only from the higher parts of the bush, where the leaves are softer and softer. Bancha consists of leaves growing lower in the bush, which are thicker and less soft. Also, the leaves for making Bancha tea are picked later, our Bancha is from the second picking.

Bancha tea has less caffeine than Sencha and therefore less bitterness. Leaves growing higher receive more direct sunlight and the amount of catechins is higher than leaves growing lower. However, Bancha tea, made from second-picked leaves, has similar catechin content to Sencha.

Catechins also aid in digestion, which is why Bancha tea it is recommended to drink 30 min. after a meal. Due to its mild taste, Bancha goes well with food, especially with dishes such as tempura and seafood.

The prepared tea is greenish-golden in color and has a mild taste.

The same tea leaves can be infused 3 times!

Method of preparation:

  1. Add green tea to the teapot.
  2. Never use freshly boiled water! Pour boiled tea over the tea leaves and cooled to the required temp. with water. Brewing time depends on the type of tea (see below).
  3. Pour the brewed green tea evenly into all the pre-prepared cups, which will preserve the taste and aroma. Never leave tea leaves in water! In warm water, the catechins break down and the proteins increase, which can cause stomach aches and the tea itself will be more bitter.
  4. Since we use the highest quality grade green tea, the same tea herbs may be present boiled three times (increase the draw time by 15 seconds each time)
